The Honda LPGA Thailand is set to enthrall audiences once again. Since its first tee-off in 2006, the tournament has been serving world class action at the Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course and smashing new records year by year. Next year, the tournament will take from the 20-23 February 2020 and we can promise you another edition of finesse, strength and a whole lot of fun under the sun!
Throughout the past 13 editions of the tournaments, we have hosted many champions such as Han Hee-Won, Lorena Ochoa, Suzann Pettersen, and more But there is no doubt that the most eye-catching player is Amy Yang from South Korea.
Amy Yang holds the crown for being one of the LPGA Tour players with the highest winnings, and has dominated the Honda LPGA Thailand in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Let’s take a look at the timeline of her journey in this tournament.
In 2015, Yang achieved a score of 69 on the last day against Yani Tseng, Mirim Lee, and Stacy Lewis where she was able to take the lead by 2 strokes before the 15th hole. She then successfully scored a birdie on the final hole and earned her very first Honda LPGA Thailand title.
Then in 2017, she won her second Honda LPGA Thailand title against Ryu So-yeon with a birdie on the last hole. She has also set a new record with a -22 during the four-day competition, beating Suzann Pettersen’s record in 2007 and Ai Miyazato’s record in 2010 by 1 stroke.
And like what people say, third time’s a charm
On the last day of the tournament in 2019, Yang and Minjee Lee were up against each other in a neck and neck duel. They almost went into a sudden death playoff but Lee missed a shot to make an eagle on the final hole and gave Yang a chance to win by one stroke. As a result, Yang took home the championship trophy for the third time with a total score of -22!.
Stepping into 2020, Yang will definitely be under a lot of pressure to defend her title. The Honda LPGA Thailand has a reputation of being unpredictable and it could be anybody’s game.
